Bacon Sloppy Joes and Macaroni Salad

My Quick and Easy Weeknight Dinner
Bacon Sloppy Joes
Granny's Macaroni Salad
And Dessert,... oh yeah, my Lion,.. I'll Make You Roar! Come to mama, baby!

My FFH(firefighter husband) CONSTANTLY shakes his head at me. It can get quite annoying at times. He reads a post on my blog, and shakes his head the whole damn time.. like one fluid motion..

When we were sitting at a bar the other day waiting for a to go order, having a drink, I told him how the beer tap things were turning me on,

he shakes his head.

I exclaim excitedly to him, look at the size of these carrots,

we can save some money on sex toys, he shakes his handsome noggin.

Easter morning, I whispered to him about this true Polish kielbasa

and how deep I could um shove it in my mouth, he shakes his head at me. I tried to go a step further and said look when cut in half,
I can grab a pal and we'll put on a show, once again he shakes his damned firefighter fighter of flames head..

When I tell him I want it here and I want it now in the parking lot of Idle Hour bar/restaurant, he shakes his head at me. Sometimes Ill give him a moon in the middle of a store, yep, shakes his head at me.

On Halloween when I wanted to dress up like Little Bo peep, wig and all,

he shook his head yet again.

When I ask him to say cock fight cock fart ten times fast like the firemen did on Rescue Me last night, ,

he shakes his head on me..Can any of you men say it ten times, you must be soo talented if you can!

Geez..Even if I hand him a ritz cracker sleeve and stroke it in a provacative manner, I am met with a shake of the head.

I know, I know you are wondering WHICH head aren't you.. what slobs you all are.. you really need to get your minds out of the gutter..

OH Man,

My Lord,
Good God In heaven
Look at this guy.. could you not just soo shake your head right about here
for him?

Anyway, here is a Rachael Ray(hows that for a cold shower) recipe, a quickie but goodie weeknight meal..

Bacon Sloppy Joes, original recipe found here.. I paired it with my granny's old fashioned macaroni salad. Very simple, but very pleasing!

To begin with the joes, cook your chopped up bacon in a skillet.

Add your chopped onions, celery, red bell peppers, and garlic
to the pan. Cook for about 7 minutes till softened.
Push to side of skillet and toss on your ground beef.Cook, breaking up the clumps, about 7 minutes. Stir in your ketchup and worcestershire sauce.
Season with your salt and freshly ground black pepper, I use loads of the pepper..Cook till thick about 5 minutesToast your buns,,,
ALL BUNS ARE ALWAYS BETTER TOASTED... pile on your joes.. Don't you love to eat messy things.. just for the slurp factor alone..Oh Yes, simple,
quick and yummy,
weeknight meal..
Granny's Macaroni Salad

This macaroni salald was my granny's.. It is a simple one, yet very tasty, pleases most.

Just cut up your veggies, carrots, celery, red and green peppers, and red onions.

Put in bowl. Boil and drain your elbow macaroni. Toss together your dressing ingredients which include mayo, vinegar, mustard, sugar, salt and pepper.. Combine all together, chill, and you're done.. It is easy,
old fashioned and
delicious.

Giveaway winners announced next post, I have to go now.. but here is one more present for you.. He can shake his head, either one, at me any ole time..

how bout you? ...Thank you Monica for use of your friend.

  1. Oh lawsey! First thing in the morning and I have to work all day! You are so evil Donna!

I really like that Sloppy Joe, you had me at bacon. The macaroni is a great side! I should have gone to your house for dinner last night!

  2. Yum!!! This looks delish! And I'm not talking about the food....well, the food looks fantastic too!

  3. I'm shaking my head right now! :)

The sloppy joes look great, the bacon really turns them into something special.

  4. Must be a husband thing - I'm regularly met with a shake of the head when I say stuff to mine ;) Great looking sloppy joes...I haven't had one in ages.

  5. I LOVE sloppy Joes....but the vegetarian version (unfortunately?) :) I'll substitute the meat with tofu or something. But the recipe is pretty cool :)

  6. aahhhh the carrot i can't believe you still use them. oh have them.

  7. You always pick great food! I can't wait to try the sloppy joes with bacon. Sounds yummy. Never had a sloppy joe with bacon. Your grandmas salad looks great too. The simple old recipes really are the best!

  8. Oh Donna you have done again take my mind off the food. Looks great everything.

    ReplyDelete
  9. you would look good as little blow me too.

  10. I feel slightly illegal reading this post at work. I've never tried bacon in sloppy joes - and haven't tried making sloppy joes since college. THis seems like a great reason to try them. Thanks for sharing!

  11. Nice eye candy today!

My mom is famous for her macaroni salad, too. My husband and kids don't like it, so when she makes some she always makes a little extra for me to take home. I like the idea of adding carrots to the salad, I've never had it that way.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Some nice eye candy there. If I had that around I might actually get my mind off food once in a while and lose a few pounds.

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose husband can't seem to figure out what to do with a suggestive remark. Men are so dense!

Your mac salad is so nice and homey and tasty looking. You have a little more flavor than your average bland mayo-and-elbow salad.

  13. Donna, how did you know that sloppy joes are the secret way to my heart... whenever Matt and I make a bet about something ("That's the actor from Lord of the Rings!" "No it's not!"... we're so lame) I ALWAYS say that if I win, he has to make me sloppy joes. Next time I'll be more specific: he has to make me THESE sloppy joes.

Now, I am by no means as hilarious as you, although I feel as if reading your blog has helped me brush up on my own bawdy puns... but I definitely get the head shakes from my bf as well. I pretend like he's saying "You are so cute and I love you so much... but I can't match your current intense level of ridiculousness with any mix of words, so I'm just going to shake my head in appreciation of your personality..."

  14. I want some of his bacon, I mean your bacon, ya know the bacon for the sloppy joes...DAMN! This post has got me going, whahoooo!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I like the idea of bacon in the Joes!

As for the eye candy, he can add bacon where he pleases. Ahem.

The mac salad is almost EXACTLY like my granny's recipe. She didn't use carrots...and added cubed sharp cheddar.

    Toasty buns, toasty buns...
