I have been MIA for 5 days or so.. Hectic as all heck
because of this. I don't and won't have much time to post my usual shenanigans, so bear with me. I will be posting about food, and commenting as much as I can squeeze in.. but not too many of my antics until all this moving business is put behind my family. Hope you stick with me.
OK, I admit, I havent just been busy with the sale of my home, or the buying of a new home, I also spent some quality time here

It has proven to be a great vacay spot. Unloads you of stress, relaxes your muscles, wonderful sights, food is delicious(ha ha), and once you've been there, it will beCOME a place you'll want to visit again, and again, and again, and again! Multiple times!
This will be my second round of Imitation posts. I will be doing them all week long. If you don't know what Imitation posts are, see my very first one here. Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery, so I hope you wonderful bloggers that I imitated will feel flattered..
Let's begin with The Duo Dishes.
I adore these 2.. not only do they have delicious food, they are always so upbeat and cheery
I chose Mom's Apple Pie to make from their blog.
And am I ever glad I did.

It is undeniably delicious and easy peasy to make.

Side note.. don'tcha just LOVE the smell of freshly grated nutmeg?? I love it almost as much as the scent of a good sweaty romp.
I was drawn to it because of the crumb topping,

lattice crust,

and the fact that you could make it with refrigerated pie dough.

A delicious weeknight dessert..

My children loved it,and leftovers sent to the firehouse and were gobbled down.

Please visit them if you haven't. You won't be sorry that you did.
Thanks
Duo Dishes for a keeper recipe to add to my file. I will be making it over and over again.
Next I decided to try Oatmeal Butterscotch Toffee Chip Cookies,
If you are a fan of butterscotch,

these cookies are a must try! Rachel has a lovely, lovely blog.

She has many recipes that call my name.
I made the cookies as she directed but for one change, I only added 1 3/4 cups butterscotch chips (1 pkg).

My husbands co-workers, the fighters of flames, enjoyed these immensely.
Whether or not my family and the firefighters enjoy something determines the "keeper" status of a recipe.
This also earned the title of keeper/repeater and a place in my Recipe Keepsake Binder.

One day Id like to do a post on that also.

This is for you, Duo Dishes and Rachel Vs The Kitchen. Thank you so much for 2 wonderful finds!
Tune in tomorrow for more imitator recipes.

ReplyDeleteWow! Lattice! I've never tried doing that!
ReplyDeletelove Duo Dishes as well :) You two are definitely on my list of top cooking blogs... so if YOU like one of THEIR recipes-- must be a winner. Guess I'll have to make Apple Pie soon!
ReplyDeleteHope everything slows down for you soon :)
They both look great...hope the move is going smoothly!
ReplyDeleteI am from Dutch stock..Our apple pies in Western Michigan are famous. I had an old aunt that would make them in a brown paper bag, using an Heirloom apple(nowdays!) called a Wolf River- one apple= one pound! I like and make an apple crisp that has been in a State competition- in top five! The cookie incorporates my favorite flavor Butterscotch! Sometime, look for a Dutch version of butterscotch- it's a hard candy called a babelaar-darker than butterscotch but I think you'll like them!
ReplyDeleteBoth of those recipes sound incredible! I cant wait to try the cookies!
ReplyDeleteThese both look delicious. Hang in there Girlfriend. Not even moving is forever. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteThe pie and cookies look delicious! I will be making the apple pie soon!!!
ReplyDeleteThose cookies look so yummy! I'd love to try one of those!
ReplyDeleteA crumb AND lattice top, I'm in love! Those cookies look terrific too!! I love soft chewy cookies!! Great recipes. I hope all is going well with the sale and buying another home!! Try not to over due it!!
ReplyDeleteBoth the pie and the cookies looks amazing! Apple pie is my very favorite dessert ever so save me a big piece! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI never did have the patience to make a pie. Maybe it's because I'd be too impatient to wait for it too cool down causing the filling to ooz out. LOL
ReplyDeleteYou may have just convinced me to try making a pie again.
Those both look amazing, I will definitely visit those blogs.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know we love you for more than your shenanigans. When I say love I mean that in a strictly non-stalkerish kinda way.
Nice desserts! I get some of my best blog recipes from pilfering off of other people's blogs!
ReplyDeletebeautiful!
ReplyDeleteI was looking at this Italian apple cake recipe and... there were A LOT of steps. And then I saw your pot and thought - yes, for the weekend! Gorgeous pie, tasty cookies. Best of luck with the move. I'll be waiting.
ReplyDeleteGood luck packing and moving!
ReplyDeleteBoth treats look yummy. I love butterscotch chips, so I know I would really enjoy those cookies!
That is an absolutely beautiful lattice top apple pie. I have never made a lattice top. I'm afraid I'd get too frustrated if it didn't turn out well and trash the whole thing!!! I know I should try though, I just love apple pie. The cookies also look great. Moving is a pain. Always having to have the house look great so it can be shown. Ugh! Then packing....been there many times....
ReplyDeleteApple pie and toffee cookies chip cookies ~ somebody get me a fan; I think I'm going to have the vapors (or whatever they're called! LOL).
ReplyDeletei love apple pie! yours looks so tasty - and those cookies look yummy, too!
ReplyDeleteI've missed you while you were gone! Donna, you can't be away for too long or people will get very very sad! but I know you've been really really busy what with moving and everything, so I hope you had the time to relax and rest!
ReplyDeletegosh...you even make a simple apple pie look so damn sexy! and lovely, gorgeous cookies indeed!
Such a pretty pie!
ReplyDeleteYum and Yum! I haven't ever made apple pie. This looks fairly easy. I think I should try it!
ReplyDeleteI cannot lie, your shenanigans and raucous posts have been highly missed in the blogosphere. But I'm glad you got a little vacation in to ease off the stress of house selling/moving. I love apple pie, although I have to say I like the smell of cinnamon better than that of nutmeg. The smell of warm apple pie though - can't be beat.
ReplyDeleteThe pie is gorgeous!! And the cookie look so soft and loaded with goodies in every bite. You make the yummiest desserts!!
ReplyDeleteTwo wonderfully sweet recipes!
ReplyDeleteOoh, those look great Donna! and good luck with all the moving things! We're getting closer and closer to our date too!
ReplyDeleteDonna, these looks fabulous! Especially those cookies, yummm. And who doesn't love a classic apple pie?
ReplyDeleteAlso, thank you for your kind words in your comment on my blog, I really appreciate it!
I love my apple pie with crumb topping. I never thought to put a lattice crust over that! Good idea! Both recipes look so yummy. I've been craving cookies. I just bought the ingredients to make my favorites soon. Now to find the time...
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the packing and moving!
Argh, packing...hate it. The best gift I ever received was when I was 8 months pregnant with our first and my in-laws hired movers to help pack up our apartment. LOVED IT. I wish I could have that every time. But, we have moved twice since then and so far it's a no. I think the key is that I gotta get preggers before moving...wow, I just used your comment section to work that out, lol.
ReplyDeleteLove these recipes. I adore apple pie and cookies always make me happy.
Both desserts look great! Good luck with the house stuff, I know how stressful that can be.
ReplyDeleteI'm sold for the apple pie!!! :D
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your move Donna! That apple pie makes me wish I had apples in my kitchen so I could make it right now!
ReplyDeleteThose both look wicked good. Good luck with the move, they can be a pain.
ReplyDeleteExit 69! No wonder you've been MIA. I don't blame ya :-)
ReplyDeleteDon't think I've ever seen a pie with lattice and a crumb topping. I bet it was delicious. My husband loves apple pie, I might have to make this for him.
Good Lord, woman! I could eat BOTH of these for dessert. Actually, breakfast lunch and dinner. I'm not a fan of apple pie, but I think this would change my mind. These are in my baking queue. Yum!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your move and everything! The pie and the cookies look excellent!
ReplyDeleteWow, you just made me quite hungry. I'm craving that crumb topping!
ReplyDeleteAm I a glutton or what. They both have me drooling.
ReplyDeleteYou're in my thoughts, hope the move goes smoothly!
That apple pie is calling my name! It looks so dense and I just want to put it in my mouth right now!! I know about the whole moving thing. We just moved about 8 months ago and I can honestly say that I never want to do it again! But, I love the picture of exit 69 - Me and the hubby were laughing the other day when we discovered that we lived off of exit 69!!
ReplyDeleteoatmeal cookies? good. oatmeal scotchies? best cookie ever. oatmeal scotchies with toffee? better than the best cookie ever. :)

ReplyDeleteThe pie looks delicious, too--I've been looking for a good pie recipe!
Donna, Love the crumb topping on the pie - think I will add this to my Mom's apple pie recipe. Moving is never easy - Good Luck with it all and be sure to label the boxes well. Experience talking here. Thanks for supporting my blog.
ReplyDeleteBoth recipes look like keepers. I cheat with the lattice crust though-have a cutter to do that :)
ReplyDeleteGlad you were still able to get a little R and R in (hahaha) during this stressful time. Hope the move is soon and smooth-then you can get back to your shenanigans!
You are the 'sweet shenanigan' queen! ...and if I had only waited five more comments I might be 69'in today :)
ReplyDeleteBoth of these imitations look divine! Good luck with the house stuff...it's a big ordeal for sure, you'll need all the vacay you can get ;)
ReplyDeleteI am seriously going to have to try these cookies! Hope you are holding up. I hate HATE moving!
ReplyDeleteThose butterscotch cookies look amazing! Good luck with the move!
ReplyDeleteAnother great job Donna! I've not been to either of those blogs but on your word I'm hopping over to check 'em out.
ReplyDeleteHey, girl! I made your pancakes, the banana pecan ones....they were really good but mine weren't fluffy like yours nor did I see in your recipe where you added in the tbs of sugar. Did I miss something? What's your tip for fluffy pancakes? Now that maple honey butter? That was A-mazing. I wanted to eat that stuff by itself!! The kiddos have been adding it to eggo waffles. Your butter concoctions ROCK!
~ingrid
What a beautiful pie! Oh man, these look so good.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck with everything you have going on! If I know you at all by now though, I know you'll handle everything like a rockstar!
