Before I begin, I have a question.. Are your husbands embarrassed to buy you your feminine time of the month items? You know like these
or these??

My FFH claims it doesn't bother him, but it does.. We were out and about and I remembered I needed my girlie items. So we stopped at Rite Aid. Convo starts..me...
Honey you go in, I have a headache, just pick me up the pink box, regular absorbency. He looked stricken, almost turned pale, and cleared his throat.
OK, come in with me then, I said.
In we walked. Just then, lightning struck and I remembered I needed some candles, and some Tide.. I grabbed those while he perused the magazines. I called to him, My hands are full help me... Being the firefighter he is he rushed to my rescue..
when a cloud of dismay passed in front of his handsome face as he landed in front of the dreaded tampons. I moved my elbows toward the box I wanted and told him to carry that. He glanced around quickly picked it up and strode swiftly, purposefully toward the register. I lagged behind, way behind, I wanted him to enjoy this moment you see.
He gets to the register and I am by now hiding.. he is looking frantically for me as his face is turning every shade of purple imaginable.
The gorgeous cashier starts to ring up his tampons.. Wouldn't you know he left his wallet in the car.. Oh Yes, God is making me laugh today..He finally catches my eye and yells at me CARD!!, CARD!!..
Huh?? I say. GIMME the F^&*)%$#@ CARD%^&*()$#.!! Now a line is forming behind him and the pink tampons are still laying untouched on the counter.
Then he gave me the look.
You know that look, the you've gone too far look.. So I handed him the card and we went on our way. . Little things like that amuse the hell outta me.

Big brave fireman who runs into buildings of flames, afraid to carry a feminine pink box of tampons..heeheeheehee..
I saw this Oreo Cake with Chocolate Pan Frosting on Julia's Dozen Flours blog. Holy Crap!
Is this blog ever loaded with goodies.. from snickerdoodle blondies to snickerdoodle bundt cake, to Dark chocolate fudge milky way cake to Frito bark, to a chocolate chip cookie cake.. you must see that... anyway..
I chose this gem.

Terrifically delicious 4 layer cake with a chocolate pan frosting.

This is a quick and easy recipe,

great for a fun gathering or children's birthday cake.

Was gobbled in my home and leftovers were inhaled by the firefighter men.

I thank God for the firefighter men.. if I ever kept all those leftovers in my house, I would so be a house.. One of my most favorite parts of Julia's blog is her feature Would I Make this Again?

She answers honestly, which helps me choose what I'd like to make from her collection of goodies!

Thank you Julia for a wonderful recipe,

It is one that I would make again also!

This is for you..

I was stalled in my tracks when I laid eyes on my next Imitator recipe.. from
Kelly's Evil Shenanigans blog.
These cookies are called Chocolate Chip Overload Cookies, and are they ever so delicious!
These have become an instant hit in my family.

Instantly they rose to the top of some of their favorite cookie list, they are LOADED with chocolate chips! LOADED!

You Can Not NOT try them. Please do, There is NO room for disappointment!
My photos do NOT do these gems justice, in any sense of the word, go see
Kelly's photos..
They are beyond indulgent, and all who had one, RAVED about them. This is a MUST try cookie, they are simple, simple to make, and store well.

My photos are lacking as I am still playing with the light box, please go see Evil Shenanigans photos instead.. they are spectacular!
Kellys blog is fantastic. Her recipes range from pomegranate glazed skirt steak to apple cake to flour tortillas to cheddar cheese soup to chocolate molten cakes.
I know I will be making these for many years to come.. this is for you.

I have a few other Imitator posts I want to tell you about, but it may be interrupted by a Tyler post. We'll see how busy life gets in the next 48 hours or so.
You are making me hungry woman for sweets. I wondered what you did with all your leftovers, the same thing I do!
ReplyDeleteMy brother brought me pads once when I was in the hospital. He didn't seem the least bit bothered by it - nice guy!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, everything looks divine and delish! The cake especially!
Love the cake! Love the cookies!! I would have liked to have been someone standing in line behind you.
ReplyDeletehahahahha. i haven't had the chance to do that and i think it's because i'm not married - so I'M embarrassed to even be seen carrying tampons when i'm with a guy.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, I am so flattered! I'm also please you like the cookies so much! Thank you for trying them, posting about them, and a BIG thank you for the award! :) BTW ... that cake looks so good to me. So very, very good.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny, b/c my husband acts absolutely ridiculous about so many things, but one thing he has gotten good about is not arguing when I ask him to pick up tampons! Of course that might be b/c I usually remember I need them when it's already too late and he likely doesn't want to have to deal with me at the start of my cycle...I'm never a happy camper! I would not be a very happy wife if he showed up at home after work without my tampons :)
ReplyDeleteI just have a good time coming here. A good laugh for the start of the day. I don't ask my hubby to buy feminine products. I buy them by the case at Costco... It's great to have a firefighter men to eat that monster, delicious cake.
ReplyDeleteBy the way...these recipes are looking especially appealing to me right now and since I'm not normally a big "sweets person", I can only assume it must be PMS...coincidental, huh?!?
ReplyDeleteChocolate!!
ReplyDeleteI think my husband is actually less embarrassed to buy these than I am. If I have to buy them I can't just buy them I have to add something with it. I don't know why this makes me feel better????
Everything looks perfect Donna..........very delightful and awesome presentation as ever!!!
ReplyDeleteI want to make those cookies!! They look amazing!
ReplyDeleteI'm full now. You can stop! I gain weight when I come here.
ReplyDeleteMy hiney told me after we started seeing each other that under no circumstances would he EVER go to the store to buy me girlie stuff HA HA!!! The cake is out of this world! And the cookies, I don't think theres a space on those cookies that doesn't have a chocolate chip!! WONDERFUL!!!
ReplyDeleteThat cake looks FANTASTIC! I will definitely have to make it in the future. And as far as husbands and lady items...my husband actually has no problem getting them for me. However, he will not buy his Rogaine on his own. I always have to pick it up for him. He's silly. :P
ReplyDeleteThat oreo cake is UNREAL! It can't be real. Somebody get out the big pinchers because we need to be forced into reality. Lurdy jebus, that looks too good.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE love love your blog! The cake looks to die for and I may have to give it a go! You should snag my banana bread recipe from my site. You'll LOVE it! See you around hopefully :)
ReplyDeleteYou are really not good for my resolve to not bake for a month. (Have broken it twice) All looks delicious. Do enjoy the tales... men are wonderful but funny creatures.
ReplyDeleteI have never been so pissed I'm allergic to chocolate until now...
ReplyDeleteMy husband is actually not embarrassed at all. He says it's part of life. He would probably be apt to embarrass me by asking questions or something! Your cake and cookies look great. I'm going to make the cookies as soon as I get to the store to buy that large amount of chips!
ReplyDeleteno comment!
ReplyDeleteThat cake is to die for yummy lookin!!!! I had a good laugh at your ffh's shopping experience, I have had to send my hubby for such goodies & he is always so embarrassed :)
ReplyDeleteMan these desserts are screaming to me! My hubby would if I asked, but he might come home with depends instead of what I asked for :)
ReplyDeleteChocolate chip cookies are Ole Sweetie-Pi's favorite; overloaded, he'll be in heaven. Will definitely do these for him.
ReplyDeleteI know where to go when I am craving chocolate!
ReplyDeleteLooks totally decadent.
Hubby buys all the feminine stuff for me.. I'm the shy one!
Chocolate overload, indeed!!!! But I can take it. I'll take three slices of that cake and a dozen of those cookies and I'll be happy for the rest of the day.
ReplyDeleteFunny story. LOL.
LOL on the feminine products. I think my husband is more thrilled than I am that I am finished with that...for good. Period (pun intended).
ReplyDeleteAs for your recipes... girl, you are tempting me! Compared to my guiltless lemon cake, these rock!!!! *sigh*
The cake...the cake!!! I'm lost for words...
ReplyDeleteHoly Shnikey's...that cake! Amazing! And of course the cookies look awesome, too :) ha ha ha ha tampons...ha ha ha...still laughing. What a good hubby.
ReplyDeleteI've never had a problem buying girlie stuff for my girl. I mean, they aren't for me. Clearly. Heh. At the moment I'm working in retail, in a large chain pharmacy place and I see blushing dudes buying pads all the time. I've never understood the issue...
ReplyDeleteOh right, cake and cookies. They look fantastic! I've never had oreo cake before, sounds gooood.
I've been married almost 8 years and Sir Pickypants and I have actually been together for almost 11 years and not once has this had to happen to him.
ReplyDeleteHe works very long hours. We're modern-day Cleavers. He makes most of the money (which he spends mostly on his horse) and I do all of the cooking/cleaning/shopping. The only time he ever shops is if he's desperate for something that only HE wants. Otherwise, he's never home to do the shopping. He should realize how lucky he is that he has been spared the humiliation of buying my tampons!
Your desserts are yummy and thanks for the blog recommendations. I chekced them out and they are great!
Woah these both sound so outrageously delicious. The idea of oreos mixed in to cake is really making me want to bake it immediately!
ReplyDeleteMy DH has bought me that type of stuff - no problems. If only I could get him to keep the pantry organized, I'd be in good shape!
ReplyDeleteBoth cake & cookies look fabulous.
yummy for both!
ReplyDeleteHow funny... I just now posted an oreo cheesecake and then came to look at your blog.
ReplyDeleteand no...my husband doesn't mind picking up tampons for me. Or so he says. LOL
We once went into a store and I picked up a box of them. We were walking down the aisle together and the Mayor walked by (small town ) my husband waved, the Mayor waved, I waved. Which hand did I raise to wave with? you got it. The one holding the little pink box.
High in the air...I waved it proudly.
LOL
That Oreo cake looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteMy husband doesn't mind buying me stuff like that. If he does he doesn't let on. I usually send him to the store by himself to buy me tampons, Monistat, pregnancy tests, whatever. If he knows I need them, he'll even offer to go. Now that's a MAN!
LOL - love the Rite Aid story - too funny! Although if you're making these cakes and cookies all the time it should more than enough make up for passing embarrassment!
ReplyDeleteI cannot get over that cake, Donna! I'm a chocolate addict while stupid A is not. I have to make this somehow!
ReplyDeleteHow on Earth do you stay so thin with all these goodies you bake? OOPS, never mind, tee-hee, I think I know. You send them off to the firemen. I don't have anywhere to send my goodies so they go strait to my butt. Or else I'd be baking everyday! The cake is a chocoholic's dream! And those cookies are out of this world - I will definitely be making them for the chocolate chip cookie lover in my family.
ReplyDeletegood god taht cake looks good!
ReplyDeletewow what a cake and funny story my hubby would do it, but he's a DR and ok with these things, I get him to get breast feeding pads!!! lol
ReplyDeleteoh my god. a cake laced with oreos. even more addictive than crack! this will be a jaw-dropper. I'm def making this for my youth group some day soon!
ReplyDeleteDonna... I'm looking at the cookies and cake pictures... and can not stop of drooling right now.... !!!
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about making Kelly's cookies for a few days now! *grins*
ReplyDeletehahaha - reminds me of the time I slipped a tampon into hubby's pocket when we were going out. He pulled it out when he was reaching for his cell phone in the middle of a hardware store ;)
ReplyDeleteI love Oreos and that cake looks AMAZING - yum!!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby gets out of buying girlie products by claiming he doesn't know what kind to get, even though I've been using the same brand for the entire 8 years we've been together!
Wow, that oreo cake looks fabulous - I love the oreo decorations on top too! The overload cookies are just awesome!
ReplyDeleteThat was seriously hilarious. Since my husband is an OB/GYN, nothing like that even remotely embarrasses him. I can't have any fun.
ReplyDeleteThe desserts here...OMG these are some lovely offerings!
Donna, love these imitator posts - I love baking from other blogs. These two recipes sound fantastic, great double post.
ReplyDeleteOnce again LOL!! What does that cake taste like? That has to be the best looking and sounding cake that I have come across!
ReplyDeleteYour photos make me drool!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog, I love your blog it is so colorful :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that looks yum, both the cake and the cookies. My kids would love that cake. Oreos and cake - it can't get better than that.
ReplyDeleteTHREE BAGS of chocolate chips?? I've gotta make those!
ReplyDeleteOreo Cake works for met I love chocolate but I hate oreo's I can't wait to try this since they are all broke up.
ReplyDeleteoh, the tampon walk of shame... poor guys. You would think that they'd evolved past that embarrassment by now...
ReplyDeletethose desserts look AMAZING. How are you so skinny. I guess because you give all your leftovers away? You must have amazing willpower... because I don't think I'd leave any leftovers from THAT cake :)
Both recipes look really delicious but that cake is making me drool.
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny about your husband! Mine used to be that way but after 16 years he will do it no sweat, so the last time I asked him to get me some girlie stuff while I went down a different aisle and he just tossed them in the cart like it wasn't a big deal. You have to be proud at that moment! Ha ha.
ReplyDeleteI could probably eat a few of those cookies about now and a large slice of cake. Pms is a killer. Great post!
eheheheeeee .. yesss, the hubbs does try to avoid the "feminine" aisle at all times! But I'm terrible Donna ... forget hubbs, he's easy .. I even used to make my DAD buy pads for me from the store!! He would WHINE & COMPLAIN every single time, but was always sweet enuf to do it. Guess Mommy had him well-trained ;)
ReplyDeleteYou are so funny. I think my hubby would of taken the Tide from me so I could carry that pink box!
ReplyDeleteI made those cookies and they are the best. It doesn't look like much dough till you add the zillion chips. I added some chipotle powder to half my dough and loved them even more!!!
Now that cake seems to be calling my name. ;-)
mmmmmmmm. delicious chocolate! yep, nick definitely hates buying feminine products. my ex never minded. it is the ONLY thing that was maybe better about him.
ReplyDeleteThat oreo cake looks fab! It's a must try! Thanks for sharing!!!
ReplyDeleteNot much embarrassas my husband...I'm the one that to this day still hates to wait in line buying tampons...especially since I am at the age where I am waiting (anxiously) for menopause to kick in already so this will all finally be done with!!! Love, love, love the oreo cake and cookies. Will you please tell me your trick as to how your cookies always look so uniform...they look perfect. Mine are always a mess...completely different sizes, etc.
ReplyDeleteAll items made of chocolate....Ya buddy now that is my kind of goodies.
ReplyDeleteMy husband does it no problem..even when we first got married it didn't bother him to pick up girlie stuff. Really admirable since he has no sisters.
ReplyDeleteThat cake is calling my name - talk about fabulous!
Your story about the tampons reminded me of years ago when I thought, correctly, I was pregnant, I sent Mr. Hawthorne out to buy me a pregnancy test. He told the girl at the checkout, "This isn't for me. It's for a friend." Gotta love Mr. Hawthorne.
ReplyDeleteOh- the cake and cookies look wonderful.
You should try Kelly's brownies too. They are amazing - the best brownies I've ever eaten.
I'm sorry, but it is just pure evil of you to post two recipes that look this amazing in one post! Are you trying to kill me? :)
ReplyDeleteBoth recipes look awesome! And I have never actually watched my husband when he goes into the store to buy tampons, pads, etc. He never seems to have a problem buying them. LOL
ReplyDeleteBoth look delicious! I guess that's my problem I don't send the treats I make to someone else!
ReplyDeleteThat's one great looking chocolate cake. And I could go for a plate of chocolate chip cookies too. My favorites.
ReplyDeleteBoth of those desserts are right up my alley, and I gotta say that cookie dough wouldn't make it past the tartare stage here. As for my husband...he doesn't like to even hold my purse!
ReplyDeleteThat oreo cake looks positively stunning ... and we happen to have a package of Oreos lying around, just waiting to be used.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, Donna--you are hilarious!!! I was spewing my morning coffee while reading :) And now I am craving chocolate cake like nobody's business (at 10 am). I am loving and hating you :)
ReplyDeleteSo happy you found my blog, because it led me to yours--happy to be following!!! :) Camilla
Donna, you are hilarious!!! Is there a Lucille Ball of cooking blogs award???!I was spewing my coffee as I read along. And now I am craving chocolate cake with a vengeance--at 10 am! I am loving you and hating you at once :)
ReplyDeleteSo happy you found my blog, so that I can follow yours! Affectionately, Camilla :)
You did a great job on both of those especially the cake. Your slices were so straight and were clean cuts! Mine are always so sloppy!
ReplyDeleteSend me cookies....lets see how those bad boys travel!
My honey's not scared, he's cracking jokes with the cashier...embarassing ME! Have I told you when he writes me a check what he writes in the memo line? Uh, hummer!!! Erotic massages!!! I've got to take those to my bank and despoit them. I'm afraid to wonder what the teller lady is thinking. I make certain I go through the drive through. That's just the tip of the iceberg with his wicked humor.
~ingrid
Poor guy! lol Jesus, I don't know which dessert I'd want to shove in my face first! They both look awesome! It's handy when your hubby can take some goodies to work for the co-workers to destroy. If I ate everything I made, I'd be a total lard ass.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! Chocolate cake and a good belly laugh. Thank-you!
ReplyDelete~Laura
Drrooooool. It's breakfast time, and all i want is that cake and those cookies! They look SO good!
ReplyDeleteFortunately, I'm primarily attracted to women, so I haven't had to deal with that problem. The one guy I did marry didn't have a problem getting feminine stuff for me either.
ReplyDeleteYour desserts look amazing. I plan to try the cookies out really soon.
Mmmm! I am going to try the cookies tomorrow! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI think you have written on a topic as a menu that is universally appreciated. It is very tough to find any individual who does not like chocolate. The cookies look really tasty. I think I am gonna try some of these in this week-end. I am going to gym these days but I don’t think I’ll be able loose weight after making all these
ReplyDeleteSo cheers!!!!
