Unstuffed Cabbage, Easiest One Bowl Brownies Ever, and an interesting email.

Easiest Brownies Ever, One Pot! My NEW Go-To!
Unstuffed Cabbage..so yum!
It happened again, another LOVE letter bout my blog content..Do you all remember this one? Classic.

Are you ready for this judgemental condescension? Oh the fun. Here ya go.Letter reads:

I was truly shocked at your filthy mouth representing Woman's Day magazine recipes. Maybe everyone you know talks like this, but the suggestive potty type humor was not appealing to me. Sincerely from a person who hopes you clean up an otherwise wonderful space, then she signed her name, address and phone number.

OK I agree that one particular Woman's Day post was a bit lewd ( the one where I put giving a BJ to the tune of Hokey Pokey, see here), still if ya have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all, that's what my daddy always told me..

OK, my soapbox moment..It amazes me that people give a crap what I say. I am so NOT a foodie, I don't think anyone really learns anything from me, I just really love to cook and bake simple girl next door type food. I do not claim to be a cuisine genius. I just enjoy recipes, and reading about them. I love to EAT both food and cOck, ummm...that would be FFH's cock. I like to speak of sex, men, and the like, it goes along hand in hand with eating. 2 of the things that make life go on, without food, without sex, there is no life. Here is my response letter.

Dear Sweet Bitch, First off my mouth is never ever filthy, you see, I swallow, honey sweetheart. Are you are one of those who only do the bj thing to get the ole ring on your finger, then you kinda shrivel? You must also be one of those who has an overgrown broccoli patch in the V area? Insult me as you will but DO NOT, NO NO DO NOT insult everyone I know. How absurdly ignorant and nasty on your part. BTW, Woman's Day magazine has some interesting sexual articles, you idiot, see here, here, or here. Granted I may be a bit more passively vulgar, however it's all in fun. Is FUN in your Webster's dictionary? Try playing with yourself to work out whatever frustration is causing you to try to ruin someone's day. Didn't ask for your opinion, don't want it and I certainly don't care what ya think. But thank you for the blog content material. I love good hate mail. Gets me horny. Sincerely.. Donna, My Tasty Treasures. P.S. How do you breathe all the way up there on your high horse?

I must tell you about this fantastic dish I just made from Family Circle Magazine, and Mixing Bowl.com. Unstuffed Cabbage. It was delicious. Simple, a perfect weeknight meal. It is DEFINITELY a keeper. I only adapted it slightly. Have these ready. All ya gotta do is brown your ground beef ( I used 2 pounds, not one, and I used 85%), drain the fat, stir in your sliced onion, cook a bit, then stir in the garlic. Add your tomatoes, both stewed and paste, break up those delish tomatoes with a potato masher. Stir in the water, parsley, oregano, sugar, salt, and black pepper. I used much more pepper than called for. Simmer for 5. Now add half of your shredded cabbage, about 4 cups, cover and cook for 5 minutes. Add the other half, and simmer covered for 90 minutes. I did 2 hours. Stir occasionally. I know its not much to look at, but I wholeheartedly recommend this if you are a cabbage fan. Wonderful quick, satisfying meal. I just served it up with some mashed potatoes, and that was that! For dessert that night we had a chocolate craving, but I wanted something easy, hence The Easiest Brownies in the World, found here at My Kitchen Cafe. One pot brownies that were fantastic. I've made many, but these will be my go to from now on. How simple. These were also declared a favorite of all the brownies Ive made by the firefighters as well. All you need are these..Begin by melting your chocolate chips with your butter, I chose milk chocolate chips, but feel free to choose any kind u like. Then in the same pot, just blend in sugar and vanilla, then the eggs, 1 at a time. Then just stir in the flour, and salt. Beat till the air bubbles disappear. I didn't, too impatient. Pour into greased 9x13 pan. Bake at 350 for 20 then 325 for 10. SO Worth a try if you don't have a go to brownie yet. AND you cant go wrong with a one pan deal, or a recipe from Melanie! Crisp on top, gooey, fudgy centers, love love them! I want to thank Faith of Thought 4 Food for this award!

You are such a sweetie for thinking of me!! XXXOOO.

  1. When are people going to realize that you don't force them to read your blog? And if they don't like it, don't read it or read it with the expectation that it may not be to their liking..but for the love of Mike..don't comment on it.Me...love it

  2. So I think what I don't understand about these comments is that no one is forcing anyone to read your blog. So if people are offended, all they have to do is NOT read it. It makes me really angry actually. Probably because I adore you so much. And if anyone tried to tell me what to write or not write? I would rip them a new one. For sure.

    Okay. I'm done being angry.

The brownies look fantastic (and you are an excellent baker. I don't want to hear any more of this "I'm not a foodie" business.)

  3. Donna, I have been looking for a deconstructed cabbage roll recipe for-evah! Thank you so much for this. Just what I've been looking for!!!

  4. I agree, don't like it, don't read it. I love it, it gives me a good laugh every day!!

  5. I really love your blog Donna. The food, the kinkiness and all *hugs*........

Can I have one of those brownies?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Cheers Donna - don't change a thing - they don't have to read and have obviously nothing better to do than be a prude.

  7. wowza, donna, you have balls of steel! i think it's safe to say that you put that lady in her place. :)
great dishes here--recipes for easy brownies are always welcome.

  8. Geez,
This is my first comment. I know you'll get plenty of support here, but I had to pipe in. Before I got to your response, I was thinking "Hmm, isn't Women's Day one of those magazines aimed at, you know, _women_ with lots of sex articles in it?" I'm sure it's not at Cosmo level or anything, but it certainly acknowledges & discusses sex, sex drives, sexual problems, techniques, etc. It's not Puritanism Quarterly. Anyway, I'm glad you post these things on here for a laugh, because I think that's probably one of the better ways of dealing with it. Another way would be hitting delete after reading the first sentence or so. I know you were keeping things relatively "clean" on here for a period of time, and that entire time I was hoping it was truly your choice and not due to pressure from letters like this. Either way, I'll still read because I love the food on here, but I have to admit that I enjoy it more with a dash (or a few handfuls) of sex & humor.

  9. Brava!

Are these people like in Clockwork Orange, when their eyelids are pried open and they're forced to watch? Like voyeurs bitching about the couple in the apartment building 1/2 mile away who leave their blinds open while they're doing the deed and they need binoculars to watch them.

I still think you need to call that last couple up and talk dirty to them on the phone. After all, they left their number. That's an invitation. Or a cry for help.

  11. Love the idea of unstuffed cabbage.
I have a very hard time with the leaves sometimes - this solves that!
I agree, don't like it - don't read it. Or skim if you are not in the mood. Either way, nobody forces her to come to your site.
    :)

  12. I love your response to her, Donna. I will never understand people who write to someone to complain about their website. Um, she doesn't HAVE to visit it! I know I don't need to tell you this, but please, Donna: Don't change the way you do things around here. You're fantastic!

And that unstuffed cabbage is being printed off AS WE SPEAK.

    ReplyDelete
  13. The unstuffed cabbage sounds awesome, we would love it at our house, will definitely try!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Don't let the haters get you down, Donna! I honestly don't understand why people feel the need to write emails like this. No one's forcing them to read your blog. WTF?! Besides, you know we love you! You never fail to bring a smile to my day ... don't change a thing! :)

Funny, I'm posting about a stuffed cabbage soup tomorrow and the ingredients are similar. Weird thing is, I don't like stuffed cabbage, but I know I'd love this unstuffed version. Its looks amazing ... I'm printing it out too!

    Happy New Year!

  15. I love your letter back to the bitch! I can't wait to try the brownies, they look so rich!

  17. Love the De-constructed Cabbage as Katy called it. Hate 'hate' mail and totally agree with your daddy as mine said the same thing. It's your blog!

    ReplyDelete
  18. I have been making unstuffed cabbage for years. I always felt it was the lazy way out but you know, it looks so good here, I don't think it is lazy. It is just great food.

Brownies make a good dessert to go with it.

You might have provided dinner for us, this week with these recipes. Thanks and keep on chugging. We are all adults. You are not paying us to be here and there are no guns around, forcing us.

Perhaps, we simply like you and your style.

    ReplyDelete
  19. What a world, what a world. And count me in on the number of people who tell her to just switch the channel...

Oh, and BTW... If you really think you are just an average cook with nothing to teach, well I will eat your... um hat

    ReplyDelete
  20. So people who read, what was it? Woman's Day Mag don't have sex??? Hmmm.....
I am off to make me some brownies, you posted this recipe just in time I am having me a severe chocolate craving :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. I hate hearing about your hate mail, it makes me angry that people are so stupid. I do LOVE the email you sent back to her and laughed out loud when you started it off with "dear sweet bitch"- LOL! That is awesome!
And, I agree with Joanne...you absolutely are a foodie. You definitely know what you are talking about as far as food goes and everything you make is delicious. You can't let these tight ass ladies bother you any. You have a huge following and are much loved!
Love the unstuffed cabbage with mashed potatoes, but you know that I'll end up making the brownies because I'm a chocoholic;D

    ReplyDelete
  22. I very much agree with the above comments! People do not "have" to read your blog if they find it offensive! People need to look at life a bit less seriously sometimes. It's YOUR blog and your prerogative to write what you wish--again, people make a conscious decision whether or not they read it! Besides you have quite a following, which indicates people clearly enjoy your blog...myself being one of those people!

Your cabbage dish looks delicious...I was just thinking the other day about a dish my Mom used to make that called for cabbage, but I'm thinking my husband might be more inclined to try this dish--he's convinced he doesn't like cabbage, even though he forgets he inhales egg rolls every time we go for Chinese! The brownies look great, as well!

    ReplyDelete
  23. don't even respond be yourself Donna love the cabbage

    ReplyDelete
  24. We love you "just the wayyyyy you are...." (yes, I'm singing.) ;)
    Keep up the deliciousness!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Great response Donna! It's your blog and you're not forcing anyone to read it - I truly don't understand "hate" mail like that!

I wish I had a brownie right now - they look so good!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Donna - I'm flattered you liked the brownies enough to post on your enormously popular blog! Thank you - I'm really glad you liked them. They are my go-to recipe also.

    ReplyDelete
  27. If someone doesn't like the remarks made they should just click the little red x and not come back. I think we all know you mean no harm and it's all done in fun. As long as you post I'll be here reading!!!
I can't wait to make both these recipes. I love stuffed cabbage but it is such a pain. I can't wait to make this and the easy brownies. I've always been disappointed with the brownie recipes I've tried, but yours look perfect!!

    ReplyDelete
  28. People will never learn. There will always be that party pooper who will try to ruin the fun for everyone else. I loved your response. I agree with the above comments, too. Don't like it, don't read it and move on. It's that simple. Yet simple doesn't really compute with them, doesn't it? Don't change a thing. They're probably just jealous. ;-D

    I think I need a brownie now.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Both dishes look awesome. I agree with the others. It's YOUR blog. Just be you. If people don't like it, then they shouldn't come here. (hmm...that was almost a pun :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. Oh Donna. You are my hero. I love your response but even more than that I LOVE your blog especially the 'dirty' posts (the hokey pokes song rules).

    ReplyDelete
  31. For some reason, I couldn't post a comment on your last post, so I hope this one comes out.

That was some pretty intense hate mail you got there. All of us who blog need to have a way to make our blogs stand out from everyone else's. Obviously a lot of people love the way you make your blog stand out. No one is obliged to like it, but if someone dislikes it, then she doesn't have to read it! Live and let live I should say.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Sorry to hear about your nasty letter - some people just have to be mean for some reason (their mother's are to blame for not enforcing the rule... if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything!). Anyway, I stumbled upon your blog and I'm so hungry now! Can't wait to try these recipes. I'm part Slovak and love halupki (stuffed cabbage) but they are too time consuming when you have a newborn and a toddler!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Don't you DARE change a thing about your blog missy ;)

    ReplyDelete
  34. It's just like TV, if you don't like what you see, turn the channel. If you don't like what you read, click "Next Blog". It's not like you went to a Morman site and started talking about BJ. Good grief. Just keep it real Donna, that's what we love!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Love brownies; one of our favorites.

You tell 'em - go girl. Change channels if you don't like it. We love you. C'est la vie.

  40. Huggss Donna. This is your blog. You get to do whatever you are passionate about here. I am sorry that woman doesn't understand.

Your response made me laugh though lol.

    The brownies made me cheer!

  41. OMG laughed so hard. You told her. Pfttt, I say and the brownies look amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Maybe she shouldn't be reading if she doesn't like what you have to say?!
The brownies look delicious and the cabbage, well we will see if I can sneak some in!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Unfortunately my husband hates both cabbage and chocolate. What in the world is wrong with that man. Brownies are the ultimate treat for me! These do look fabulous!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Some people just get to much of the irritating gene! Brownies look yummy!

    ReplyDelete
  45. You go girl!

Serious, you aren't forcing anyone to read your blog...why do they take the time to write you a letter? Just stop reading. As a librarian, we get people trying to remove books that they deem "smut." Just don't read it, and leave it for others!

And the brownies look great! ;) - mary

  46. Don't people have anything better to do? I'm quite sure I've come across blogs or sites in my life that I did not like, but I've NEVER emailed the authors to tell them I didn't like it and they should change their content. That's beyond ridiculous.

Whether or not that was your actual response or not (because I know you're nicer than that) I hope she realizes she was/is wrong. You have a naughty nature, but it's all in the name of fun. You keep this blog interesting and you make people laugh as well as make them hungry. That's the whole point, right?

Anyway, I've yet to find a brownie that I really like so I might have to try these. thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Both the unstuffed cabbage and the brownies look amazing--perfect comfort food!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Well said, Donna!

I don't understand why this woman reads the blog & the article if she doesn't like it! We are living in a free world & we can have our own opinions too!

The brownies look a real delight & so does the unstuffed cabbage!! MMMMMMM,...

    ReplyDelete
  49. Donna, you do cook very well and I love your recipes. Making brownies is always my favourite cos it's so easy. Love the cannage dish too. Well, there are always serious people around. It's ok. Most important we are not like them.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Absolutely no reason for a nasty blog comment. If she doesn't like what you say, it's simple. Don't read it. Duhhhhhh.

Now as to cabbage....it's my favorite. I boil it, fry it, stuff it but have never "unstuffed" it. Great recipe!
As for your gooey dessert, must not copy. Must not.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Speak for yourselves...I am totally FORCED to read your blog Donna. Forced, I say! Like a moth pulled to the flame...like a spectator pulled to an accident...I can't look away!! LOL...I don't know what compels people to try to make everybody think just like they do. What fun would this world be if we were all the same and all liked the same things? I wonder if she realized she was just adding fuel to the fire? Hmmm....more content for your unsavory blog and its readers ;) And yeah, you are totally a foodie...you enjoy it and make it a part of your everyday life...not because you HAVE to, but because you WANT to (choices again).!! Whew, listen to me go on... Luv ya, Donna!! And I'm am SOOOO trying this unstuffed cabbage, it's making my tummy growl!!

  52. Wow! People always amaze me. It is so easy to be a hater when you have the anonymity of the internet.

  55. If people don't like your blog style - they just don't need to visit.

Both recipes look tasty - especially the brownies.

P.S. I am so glad you liked the chicken stock recipe, your soup looked super delicious.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Oh Donna, forget about it! We are having fun here and someone going to be really ps off! =D

    ReplyDelete
  57. Oh, wow! I am constantly amazed at the nerve people have and how stupid those same people are. You need to revamp your header with an arrow pointing to the little red box at the top right with an "x" in it. Underneath the arrow should be something like, "Feel free to click here if you have a problem with me or my blog, bozo! Just don't send me an email or leave a comment 'cause I don't give two hoots for what you think about it or me."

Those brownies look insane and I bet taste fantastic underneath some vanilla ice cream!

  58. I LOVE your response letter! She must have a high opinion of herself to even send such a letter to a stranger about how she thinks others should conduct themselves. Last time I checked, this wasn't HER blog. What a small minded idiot. I am glad to have found your blog and I find you hilarious...you are right, it is all in the name of fun.
Can you send me some brownies? Happy New Year to you, my friend. Sorry I haven't visited in a while but I am finally getting back into the routine now!

  59. I think girlichef said it best! Have some of these haters never heard of freedom of speech? You should give yourself MUCHO cudos for being able to raise 4 children, keep the hubs satisfied, run a household, cook and keep up with a food blog with the regularity that most of us wish we had!!! CUDOS-CUDOS-CUDOS to you Donna.

    ReplyDelete
  60. That's my Donna! OK, I admit it-- when I first found your blog, my eyebrows shot up a few times. But, now, you make me laugh. It's been said-- your choice... read Donna's humor, skim past it, or don't read any of it. That's the beauty of freedom of speech. I've said this before, too-- go, girl! You are a foodie, Donna. You amaze me! I have one grown son, who flew the cuckoos nest. Still, I didn't bake one single cookie and you made a truckload of them.
You deserve a tiara. Love ya!

  61. I am trying to learn to love cabbage. I mean - it's cheap, right? So shall try. But of course what I want, crave, need are your brownies.
In theatre, we are not a success unless we get at least one complaining letter. One of my favorites (for the most innocent of musicals - ONCE UPON A MATTRESS), a woman complained that the unruly princess in the was a bad role model for her her grand daughter. Say what?

  62. hold on one little minute - I DONT remember sending that e mail - and I forgot to mention that showing young strapping men along side sweet gooey brownies is NOT the Womens Day way - thats more of a Cosmo thing!

  63. O.K. So I'm leaving you a second comment because I keep thinking of that major B and it pisses me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  65. Donna, I can't remember how many times I've been on your blog looking through your fantastic recipes! I've made at least three I can remember off the top of my head -- your crumb cake, peanut butter/chocolate chip bars, and one of your chowders, and I have bookmarked countless more of your recipes. Everything was fabulous! And by the way, before I made your crumb cake, I had been looking for the perfect crumb cake recipe for a LONG time! :)

  66. Donna, I like reading your blog...always make me laugh :-)
The cabbage recipe looks delicious...a nice way to cook it, with meat...have to try it soon.

    ReplyDelete
  67. "How do you breathe all the way up there on your high horse?" Oh, that has me laughing still. The cabbage recipe is now on my MUST DO SOON list - looks so much easier than the casserole I'd planned.

  68. Donna, OK….here’s what I don’t get…if you don’t like something…don’t read it. That’s pretty simple right? Christ….Some people have blogs that I can’t get enough of…some I bounce around….the ones I don’t want to read because it doesn’t float my boat…guess what, there are a million other blogs/sites to visit.

Good for you for sending a letter back. And I have learned some good cooking tips from you….don’t sell yourself short girlfriend!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm equally offended by your blog. You show topless men all the time, but no topless women. What the hell? ;) :) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Whoa, that person was brave to leave her name and everything. Still, I think you, Donna, is a zesty addition to the blog world. We can't all be pure and Mary Virgin! Gotta have some spunk here, and you throw in some wild colors, girl! This coming from a pastor's daughter, so there.

And as long as you have good food, which you ALWAYS do....I don't care! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm so offended by your lewd jokes I keep coming back for more! :)
    you rock!

    ReplyDelete
  72. LOL, I LOVE the comments you have received here. Like others (and you) have stated - its your blog. If people don't like what you have to say they can just leave.

Now, for the first time ever I am publicly going to say - you speak what most people think secretly. A blog is a personal thing and those who visit are your friends. Like people you meet in person, if you don't match, you don't hang around. Some people feel compelled to speak their mind and push their beliefs on you. While I think its ok to speak your mind (we can all agree to disagree, right?) it is not right to be insulting in the process just because they don't like your style. People are just way too judgmental and yes, I have been in that category although I try not to be. If they actually would get to know who you are, they would LIKE you.

BTW, I keep coming back. What does that tell you?? Guess HoneyB's got a dirty mind too. ;o) I just keep mine publicly suppressed while you express yours!

    ReplyDelete
  73. If someone is offended or doesn't like a blog then they should stay away. Must be one miserable person. I hang on everyword you write ;-)

These recipes are definitely getting printed! Can't wait to try them!

    Happy New Year Donna! Hugs!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Crisp on top and fudgy center - PERFECT brownie. and made in one bowl!? sounds like a winner to me!!!!

It has always been my opinion, just like yours - if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all. Why would someone waste their time being NEGATIVE and telling someone what they DON'T like? Doesn't make much sense to me!
And I must say - you don't think anyone learns from your blog? Well I definitely do! Just last night I made Tyler Florence's Chicken Francese, and followed along to your pictures and instructions on my iPhone as I prepared it! And it came out GREAT! So thank you for teaching me!!! :)

    ReplyDelete
  75. I like that you take pictures of ur food step by step. It is really helpfull.
Unfortunately i am too lazy to do like that. :(
    hehe
Thats a nice blog, im glad i've found it.
Pass by my blog if you feel like, hope you enjoy.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Oh Donna, why do people like the idiot that wrote you even bother? All that moron needs to do is click the x. Your blog is one of my favorites. Your writing cracks me up and you post recipes that everyday people (like me) can make. Don't ever change a thing about your blog...you hear me????

The unstuffed cabbage looks great. We all love stuffed cabbage here and I think I'll try your version. The brownies definitely get 2 thumbs up...one bowl...can't beat that (uh oh, don't take that the wrong way!).

    ReplyDelete
  77. Donna those brownies are calling me! I could just reach into my screen and take one! (If I could!) :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. Those brownies! OMG! Love your food. And I love your blog. Your jaw-dropping comments make me laugh. If I were offended, I wouldn't read it. I wonder why others don't follow the same common sense guideline.

  80. I love this post! Be your bad self, FFW :) Why people who don't like your particular writing style would read you and then waste more time writing about how they don't like it... beyond me.

What is also beyond me is how you are so AMAZING. I forgot how much I love your picture-detailed recipes, and those brownies are going on my to-do list :)

    Happy New Year!!!!

  81. I love these brownies, they loook heavenly like you need a glass of cold milk following.

Really someone actually took the time to send you the email. People are so ridiculous sometimes, no one asked her to come read your blog! I find your posts hysterical!!

  85. First of all, saucepan brownies like that recipe are my favorite! Soooo easy and so delicious!

I have a question about the unstuffed cabbage, though... it looks DELICIOUS, but I was wondering if you think I could just dump all the raw ingredients in the slow cooker and let it cook it? Or... would that not work? Any thoughts???

And the whole point of a blog is to be yourself... you're never going to please everyone. If people don't like your content... then screw 'em. It's obvious that they're in the minority from reading through all your comments!

  87. Donna, I love you and your blog! Whenever I want to make bar recipes, the first two people I think about are you and Ingrid. Every time you receive hate mail, I get so angry. This is your space and if people can't handle a little humour, then they should just click the x on the top right corner... but seriously, all of your readers and friends love you!!

By the way, I totally love your response and the brownies look great.

  88. Hello, I just stumbled upon your blog looking for an unstuffed cabbage recipe I had tried in the past and was trying to find again. I found it here. I can say without a doubt that even a non-cabbage lover....can you even imagine....would love and devour this. I made it one night for my family. Husband, kids and even Grammie loved it and went for seconds. I served it right on top of the mashed potatoes and it was so yummy!

As for the hate mail...it made recipe hunting fun for a change!! I'll definitely be back, and am trying the chicken with white beans next.
